Chimney Sweeping

Chimney sweeping is a vital service to keep your chimney safe and working efficiently. I provide a thorough cleaning to help prevent potential hazards and ensure your chimney runs at its best.

As long as it is safe and there is adequate access for sweeping rods, most domestic chimneys can be serviced. In cases where standard access isn’t possible, sweeping from the top down has been carried out when necessary. For any unusual setups, feel free to get in touch to discuss the options.
Stove Maintenance & Repair

Stove maintenance and repair services are offered to keep your stove running smoothly. Whether it’s routine upkeep or fixing any issues, I’ll make sure your stove is working efficiently and safely.

Minor repairs, such as sealing or fire-back maintenance, are included as part of the sweeping service. More extensive repairs, including the replacement of stove or flue components, can also be arranged if needed. If the make and model of your stove are unknown, they can often be identified or researched. This photograph illustrates a missing brick in a feathered wall that was replaced.
Bird Cage & Cowl Fittings

I specialise in fitting bird cages and cowls to stop birds and debris from getting into your chimney. These expert fittings help ensure your chimney remains safe and functions properly.

With versatile ladder access, a range of chimney services can be provided, including fitting cowls or bird guards (both the types shown in the image and others), as well as re-flaunching chimney tops. Additional work can also be carried out while on-site, such as removing redundant aerials, replacing loose roof tiles, and fitting or repairing weather vanes.
Doundraught & Damp Diagnosis

I provide thorough diagnosis and advice for downdraft and damp issues in chimneys. Effective solutions are offered to resolve these problems and help prevent them from happening again.

Damp patches around a chimney or issues with downdrafts can often indicate underlying problems that need attention. Damp may be caused by faulty flashing, degraded chimney pointing, or the absence of a suitable cowl, allowing rain to enter. Downdrafts, on the other hand, can result from poor ventilation, external wind conditions, or an incorrectly sized flue, leading to smoke entering living spaces instead of drawing up the chimney. A thorough assessment can help diagnose these issues, ensuring the right solution—whether it's improved ventilation, a properly fitted cowl, or necessary repairs—is put in place.

Clients often have questions and concerns, such as:
-
What’s causing this damp patch by my chimney?
-
Why do we smell smoke in the bedroom when the fire is lit?
-
Why does my stove emit smoke when I first light it?
I’m always happy to discuss these and other chimney-related issues. You can also check out the gallery for examples of common problems I've encountered.
